Privacy policy
This policy explains how BackSpace, the spinal rehabilitation clinic at Brisbane Private Hospital, handles personal information, including health information. BackSpace is operated by BackSpace Clinics Pty Ltd (ABN 86 614 705 976). We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

The information we collect
We collect only what we need to care for you and run the clinic. This may include your contact details; your Medicare, Department of Veterans' Affairs, health fund, WorkCover or other claim details; your medical history and details of the condition we are treating; information from your referring doctor and others involved in your care; and billing details.
How we use it
- to assess, diagnose and treat you;
- to communicate with your referring doctor and other health professionals involved in your care, including the specialists at SpinePlus and AXXON Pain Medicine;
- for records, billing and claims;
- to monitor and improve the quality of our care.
We use information in research or teaching only when it has been de-identified, or with your consent and ethics committee approval. Your name is never disclosed. We do not use your information for marketing and never sell it.
Our website and the online assistant
This website does not use cookies or analytics. The assistant on this website answers general questions about BackSpace, such as appointments and parking. It does not give medical advice. Questions you type are processed by an artificial intelligence service hosted in Australia, and may be recorded in its service logs. Please do not enter personal health details in the assistant.
How we protect and keep it
We store information in secure systems with restricted access. Our staff are bound by confidentiality. We keep health records for as long as the law requires, then destroy or de-identify them securely.
Access and correction
You may ask to see the information we hold about you, or to correct it. Please write to our privacy officer at back@backspace.com.au. We will respond within 30 days.
